In his petition filed on Monday, Gandhi urged the apex court to establish an independent committee to examine how decisions relating to the SIR exercise were taken within the Election Commission.

The Congress leader also asked the court to summon relevant records and official notings concerning the process from the Election Commission. The request seeks greater scrutiny of the decisions and procedures followed by the poll body during the revision of electoral rolls.

The petition further called for a review of the online mechanism used for voter registration and related electoral services, including the ECINet portal.

The SIR process has become a major point of political debate, with concerns raised over voter registration procedures and the potential impact of electoral roll revisions. Gandhi’s petition seeks judicial intervention to examine the process and the decision-making associated with its implementation.

The Supreme Court will consider the matter in accordance with its procedures. Any directions issued by the court could influence how questions surrounding the SIR exercise and the Election Commission’s administrative decisions are addressed.

The petition represents another legal step in the ongoing political debate over electoral roll revisions. The Election Commission’s response and any subsequent court proceedings are likely to shape the next stage of the matter.

The allegations and concerns raised in the petition will need to be examined through the legal process, and the filing itself does not establish wrongdoing by the Election Commission.
