Awana brings valuable playing experience and a background in coaching to the role. During his international career, he represented India in two T20 Internationals and made a significant contribution to domestic cricket.

The former pacer played 62 First-Class matches, claiming 191 wickets. His experience across domestic and international cricket is expected to be relevant as he takes on responsibilities related to junior-level player selection.

Following his retirement from professional cricket, Awana moved into coaching and worked with several age-group teams. His coaching experience includes Delhi’s Under-16, Under-19 and Under-23 sides, along with India’s Under-19 team.

He has also been involved in various high-performance programmes run by the BCCI and the Centre of Excellence (COE), giving him exposure to the development of young cricketers and emerging talent.

As chairman of the junior selection committee, Awana will take on an important role in the process of identifying and selecting promising young players for India’s junior cricket pathways. His combination of domestic cricket experience and age-group coaching could help inform decisions about emerging talent.

The appointment marks a new chapter in Awana’s cricket career, shifting his focus from playing and coaching to a leadership role in junior selection. His work will be closely linked to the wider effort to identify and nurture the next generation of Indian cricketers.
