Mammootty’s upcoming Malayalam film Padayaatra is set to arrive in theatres on December 4, 2026. Directed by acclaimed filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan, the film brings the actor and director together again after 32 years, making it a notable release for Malayalam cinema.
The makers announced the release date on social media alongside a new poster carrying the tagline, “An Epic Journey is set to begin...”
In Padayaatra, Mammootty plays Dr. Devadas, an idealistic doctor who gives up a lucrative city career to practise medicine according to his principles. He moves to a remote tribal region in Kerala, establishes a community clinic and builds a strong relationship with the local villagers.
His life takes an unexpected turn after a suspected attack creates tension in the region. As the authorities investigate the incident, Dr. Devadas comes under scrutiny, adding a layer of mystery and conflict to the story.
The film also features Indrans, Grace Antony, Jagadish, Alencier Ley Lopez, Madhupal, Nandu and Sreeshma Chandran in key roles.
The reunion is especially significant because Mammootty and Adoor Gopalakrishnan previously collaborated on Anantaram, Mathilukal and Vidheyan. The latter, released in 1994, featured Mammootty in a widely remembered performance as a ruthless antagonist.
On the work front, Mammootty has several projects in his upcoming lineup. According to the supplied report, he is also set to appear in Om, an action drama directed by Rajkumar Periasamy and headlined by Dhanush, which is scheduled for release on November 20, 2026. His other reported projects include Mela and Mattancherry Mafia.
