OpenAI is targeting a valuation of $1.25 trillion as negotiations for its latest funding round enter their final stages. The ChatGPT maker is seeking to raise around $30 billion from investors, according to a Bloomberg report published on October 23, 2026.
The revised valuation is lower than the $1.4 trillion figure discussed earlier in the fundraising process. People familiar with the negotiations told Bloomberg that the valuation target had been reduced by $150 billion. The discussions remain ongoing, and the final terms could still change.
OpenAI most recently raised $122 billion in March 2026 at a valuation of $852 billion, including the funds raised. If the new target is achieved, it would represent a substantial increase in the company's valuation and underline the scale of investor interest in artificial intelligence.
Coatue Management is reportedly in talks to co-lead the latest funding round. OpenAI has also held discussions with investment funds from the United Arab Emirates and other financial institutions, including BlackRock, according to previous reports. OpenAI declined to comment on the latest negotiations, while Coatue did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The fundraising comes amid growing scrutiny of the large sums technology companies are spending on artificial intelligence. Recent declines in technology stocks following mixed quarterly results from major companies have raised questions about whether AI-related investment expectations have become too ambitious.
OpenAI has also postponed its planned initial public offering until 2027, with the company citing its focus on AI safety efforts. The additional funding could provide capital for its continued development and expansion while it remains privately held.
The final valuation and amount raised will depend on the outcome of negotiations with prospective investors.
