Apple’s upcoming MacBook Pro with an OLED touchscreen could be significantly lighter than current models, according to a new report. The redesigned laptop is expected to combine an OLED display and touchscreen functionality with a thinner and lighter internal design.
Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple is reworking the MacBook Pro’s internal components by miniaturising parts and rearranging them. The changes could reduce the overall weight of the laptop, although the exact weight of the upcoming models remains unknown.
The touchscreen MacBook Pro is reportedly expected to use Apple’s existing higher-end M5 chips rather than the M7 processors that are expected to arrive in 2027. The laptop is also expected to debut alongside the first OLED-equipped iPad mini, with a launch potentially coming as early as next month.
For comparison, Apple’s current MacBook Pro lineup starts at around 3.4 pounds for the 14-inch model, while the 16-inch version can weigh up to 4.7 pounds. A meaningful reduction could make the high-end laptop easier to carry without sacrificing its larger display or performance-focused hardware.
The reported redesign would also mark a notable shift for the MacBook Pro, which has traditionally prioritised performance and connectivity over extreme portability. The move to a touchscreen OLED panel could further distinguish the next-generation model from existing MacBooks.
Apple has not officially confirmed the touchscreen MacBook Pro, its final specifications, weight or launch date. More details are expected closer to the reported release window.
