Olympic medallist and boxer Mary Kom is facing a criminal defamation case filed by her former husband, Onler Kom, amid her participation in Bigg Boss 20.
According to the report cited in the source, Onler has initiated criminal defamation proceedings against Mary Kom under Section 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). He has accused the boxer of making damaging statements about him during television appearances and interviews.
Onler confirmed that he was pursuing the legal matter and said he has faith in the judicial system. He also declined to comment further, citing the fact that the matter is sub judice.
The next hearing in the case is scheduled for November 19.
Mary Kom is currently appearing as a contestant on Bigg Boss 20, where her participation has brought renewed public attention to her personal life alongside her career as one of India’s most prominent boxers.
The legal proceedings come amid a period of heightened media attention around the former couple. However, the allegations made in the defamation proceedings remain claims at this stage and will be subject to the judicial process.
Onler’s statement that he considers it a “strong case” reflects his position in the matter, rather than a finding by the court. The outcome of the proceedings will depend on the evidence and arguments presented before the judiciary.
