The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) Tirupati and the University of Melbourne have launched a new 2+2 dual degree programme, giving Indian students the opportunity to begin their undergraduate studies in India and complete them in Australia.
The Bachelor of Science Integrated (Honours) programme was announced at the Melbourne Global Centre in New Delhi on October 12, 2026. Under the arrangement, students will spend their first two years at IISER Tirupati before moving to the University of Melbourne for the final two years. Successful graduates will receive two Bachelor honours degrees, one from each institution.
The programme offers a range of science majors, including biotechnology, chemistry, ecosystem science, environmental science, food science, genetics, physics and plant science. This gives students opportunities to explore different scientific disciplines while gaining academic experience in two countries.
Graduates may also progress to a master’s degree with advanced standing, potentially reducing the time required for further study. Participants will automatically join the Science Global Scholars Program, which supports research collaboration and the international mobility of talent.
Admission to the programme will not follow the IISER Aptitude Test (IAT) route. The first intake could include up to 50 students, depending on the number of applications received.
The partnership is part of IISER Tirupati’s broader effort to expand international academic collaborations. For prospective students, the programme offers a structured pathway to experience India’s research-focused education environment and Melbourne’s international academic setting within a single undergraduate journey.
