Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convener Arvind Kejriwal has strongly criticised the BJP-led Central government following the police detention of several protesters heading to Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Saturday, October 10, 2026.
The protesters were reportedly travelling to join demonstrations called by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) and various youth organisations. Reacting to the police action, Kejriwal described the detentions as “worse than the Emergency” and accused the government of suppressing democratic freedoms.
In a post on social media platform X, the AAP leader launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government.
“It’s official.. we are living under an absolute dictatorship ruled by Modi. Arresting cockroaches straight off their flight shows an unprecedented level of fear,” Kejriwal wrote.
His remarks have brought renewed attention to the debate over freedom of expression, the right to peaceful protest and the role of law enforcement in managing public demonstrations.
The detention of protesters travelling to Jantar Mantar has also raised questions about the circumstances surrounding the police action and the authorities’ approach to demonstrations organised by political groups and youth organisations.
Kejriwal’s comparison with the Emergency reflects his criticism of what he sees as restrictions on democratic rights. However, his statements represent the AAP leader’s political assessment of the situation.
The incident adds to the ongoing political confrontation between the AAP and the BJP-led Centre. Further details about the number of people detained, the reasons for their detention and any subsequent police action were not provided in the report.
The development is likely to keep political accountability, civil liberties and the right to protest in focus in the national debate.
