The INDIA bloc opposition parties announced on Wednesday that their MPs will march to the Election Commission of India (ECI) on October 6, protesting alleged “vote theft” and demanding ballot papers replace Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs).
Congress chief and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, joined by leaders including Rahul Gandhi and Mamata Banerjee, said the opposition will hold ‘Save Democracy’ rallies across all districts from October 2 to October 8. A major public meeting is also scheduled in Delhi on November 1 to intensify the campaign.
Kharge accused the ruling establishment of undermining electoral integrity and insisted that reverting to ballot papers is essential to restore public trust. The opposition’s coordinated protests mark a significant escalation in their confrontation with the Election Commission, which has faced criticism over alleged irregularities in voter roll revisions and transparency.
The announcement comes amid growing political tension, with opposition leaders framing the movement as a fight to safeguard democracy and constitutional values. The march to the ECI headquarters is expected to draw nationwide attention and set the tone for further mobilisations.
