The annual Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026 has officially begun across the country, with the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag; Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat.” The initiative will run until October 17, mobilising citizens nationwide to take ownership of cleanliness and sustainability.

This year’s campaign is built around five key pillars:

  • Transformation of Cleanliness Target Units and Public Places

  • Swachh Paathshala: Yuva for Swachhata

  • Safai Mitra Suraksha Evam Samman Shivir

  • Jan Bhagidari for Swachhata

  • Swachhata Se Samriddhi

The Ministry of Jal Shakti emphasized that the campaign adopts a Whole of Government and Whole of Society approach, placing citizen participation (Jan Bhagidari) at its core. Awareness of the Solid Waste Management Rules 2026, including four‑way source segregation, is a major focus this year.

Highlighting the campaign’s scope, Minister C. R. Patil announced that on World Tourism Day, special drives will target tourist sites, beaches, and high‑footfall areas. On October 1, a nationwide voluntary initiative — Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath — will see simultaneous cleanliness efforts across India.

Since its launch in 2017, Swachhata Hi Seva has become a cornerstone of the Swachh Bharat Mission, encouraging citizens to step out and contribute to sustained cleanliness. The 2026 edition aims to deepen this commitment by linking cleanliness with prosperity and shared responsibility.
