Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir achieved a major breakthrough as Lashkar‑e‑Taiba (LeT) commander Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa was killed during a joint operation in Budgam district.
According to the Army, the operation was launched late Tuesday night in the Korag, Yousmarg area of Budgam, based on specific intelligence inputs. The Army, J&K Police, and CRPF jointly carried out the search, which led to the encounter.
“During the search early morning in Palmaidan, the body of Pakistan‑based Lashkar‑e‑Taiba terrorist, identified as Mohammad Asif alias Hashim Moosa, was recovered along with war‑like stores,” the Army said in a statement.
Moosa was reportedly active in the Pir Panjal Valley and South Kashmir, orchestrating attacks and recruiting local youth. His elimination is being seen as a significant setback to LeT’s network in the region. Security officials said the recovery of arms and ammunition indicates he was preparing for further strikes.
The operation highlights the continued coordination between security forces in Kashmir to neutralize militant threats. Authorities have tightened surveillance in sensitive areas to prevent retaliatory attempts by the group.
