Voting for the Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) Elections 2026 is taking place on September 18, with more than 1.51 lakh students eligible to cast their votes. The election covers four central posts, with counting scheduled for September 19.

For many students, campus and everyday concerns have featured prominently in discussions around the election. These include affordable accommodation, fee increases, women's safety, basic infrastructure, transport costs and access to student representatives.

The Satya Niketan building collapse earlier this month has added urgency to concerns around student housing. The five-storey building, being used as private student accommodation, collapsed, killing seven people, including five Delhi University students.

Students from outside Delhi have highlighted the difficulty of finding accommodation that is affordable, accessible and safe. The limited availability of university hostel beds has also contributed to demand for private paying guest facilities and rented accommodation.

Fee increases are another concern raised by students, along with demands for better laboratories, water facilities, hygiene and other campus infrastructure.

Transport costs have also featured in student discussions, particularly calls for a concession on Metro travel for students who commute long distances.

Women's safety remains another issue, with students raising concerns about campus access, the presence of outsiders and movement within open-campus spaces.

The 2026 contest includes candidates from the ABVP, NSUI and the AISA-SFI alliance, among others. The University of Delhi has also issued election-related notices ahead of the polling process.

Beyond campaign activity, the issues raised by students point to concerns surrounding accommodation, affordability, safety, infrastructure and representation in everyday university life.
