Swedish singer Zara Larsson has criticised the White House after her song Midnight Sun was used in a social media video featuring footage of US immigration enforcement operations.

The video, posted on the White House’s TikTok account, included footage showing Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents and other law enforcement personnel detaining people. Its caption, “never ending deportations”, referenced a lyric from Larsson’s song. The song was later removed from the post, while reports said the video remained visible.

Larsson responded in a video of her own, describing the White House post as “dehumanising” and saying the people shown in the footage were real individuals. She also questioned the decision to pair the immigration footage with Midnight Sun, explaining that she associates the song with connection between people, nature and the wider world.

Her response follows similar objections from other musicians whose songs have appeared in White House social media posts. Sabrina Carpenter and Ariana Grande have previously criticised the use of their music in immigration-related content.

Larsson had also previously objected to the use of her song Lush Life in a White House video featuring President Donald Trump.
