Amazon has announced a fresh round of job cuts across the US, UK and India, affecting a small number of employees as the company continues to restructure its operations.
The latest reductions are mainly linked to Amazon’s Stores business, which oversees its core e-commerce operations. Employees in customer service, marketplace support and engineering roles are among those affected, with workers in India and the UK also impacted.
The cuts came as Amazon’s Great Indian Festival 2026 shopping event began, adding to uncertainty among employees about the company’s workforce plans. Some employees reported receiving notifications about their job losses through internal communication channels.
Amazon said the changes are intended to better align its Stores organisation with its current business priorities. The company also acknowledged the difficulty of the decision and said affected employees would receive support during the transition.
The latest layoffs follow a much larger workforce reduction of around 30,000 jobs, which began late last year and continued into January as part of Amazon’s cost-cutting and organisational streamlining efforts.
At the same time, Amazon is preparing for major spending on artificial intelligence infrastructure, including data centres and chips. The company plans to invest about $220 billion in these areas, highlighting its shift toward AI-related growth.
Workforce uncertainty remains for some employees, while Amazon has also approached certain former employees affected by earlier layoffs about opportunities in AWS and its AI divisions.
