Actor Vicky Kaushal has opened up about how fatherhood has changed his perspective on everyday behaviour, saying he has become more conscious of his actions since becoming a parent. He believes children begin learning from what they observe at home, making parental behaviour an important part of their early development.
During a conversation with Harit Zaveri Jewellers, Kaushal reflected on how his approach to self-awareness has changed over the past 10 months. He explained that a child’s earliest lessons often come subconsciously from watching the people around them.
Kaushal said he had never monitored himself as closely as he has since becoming a father. He added that parents need to demonstrate the behaviour they hope their children will learn, describing this realisation as his biggest lesson from fatherhood.
Psychologists often emphasise the role of observation in childhood development. Children may learn how to express emotions, respond to disagreements and manage stressful situations by watching adults, particularly those they interact with regularly.
According to psychologist Arpita Kohli, the way parents handle anger, conflict and everyday challenges can influence how children understand and respond to similar situations. While verbal instructions remain important, a parent’s actions can also communicate powerful lessons about patience, respect and emotional regulation.
This does not mean parents must behave perfectly at all times. Acknowledging mistakes, apologising when necessary and resolving disagreements respectfully can also help children develop healthy relationship skills.
Kaushal’s reflections highlight a wider aspect of parenting: raising a child can encourage adults to examine their own habits and responses. Creating a supportive home environment involves consistent communication, emotional awareness and demonstrating the values parents want their children to understand.
