The U.S. Air Force has redeployed all of its B‑1B Lancer bombers from RAF Fairford, a U.S.-run military base in England, following an investigation into a suspected terror attack targeting the facility.
Pentagon officials confirmed on Sunday (October 4) that the aircraft were flown back to their home bases in the United States. The move comes days after British authorities foiled what they described as a planned attack near the Gloucestershire airbase, which has been used for U.S. operations against Iran.
The withdrawal underscores heightened security concerns surrounding overseas U.S. military installations. RAF Fairford has long been a strategic hub for bomber deployments, making it a potential target for hostile actors. Officials, speaking on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of military movements, said the redeployment was precautionary and aimed at ensuring operational safety.
The decision follows arrests in Britain linked to the suspected plot, which involved explosives and chemicals found near the base. While investigations continue, the U.S. military’s swift action highlights the seriousness with which Washington views threats to its forces abroad.
