Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has been appointed as the new head coach of Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2027 season, replacing Hemang Badani.
This marks a significant comeback for Ganguly, whose association with the franchise began in 2019 when he joined as an Advisor. Over the years, the 54‑year‑old has held multiple leadership roles within the Capitals ecosystem, including Director of Cricket for both the men’s and women’s teams.
Known as one of India’s most influential captains, Ganguly brings a wealth of experience and tactical acumen to the Capitals’ dressing room. His appointment is expected to inject fresh energy into the squad as they aim to bounce back strongly in IPL 2027 after inconsistent performances in recent seasons.
Fans and analysts believe Ganguly’s leadership could be pivotal in shaping the team’s young talents while balancing the squad’s experienced core. His return also signals Delhi Capitals’ intent to build a winning culture under a proven leader who has transformed Indian cricket in the past.
