Indian para-archer Sheetal Devi continued her remarkable run at the Asian Para Games 2026 by winning her second consecutive gold medal in the women’s compound individual event in Nagoya on Thursday.
The 19-year-old armless archer defeated Singapore’s Alim Nur Syahidah 142-139 in a tense final, overcoming a deficit to secure victory. The result also marked a repeat of the final between the two archers at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Para Games, where Sheetal had previously claimed the title.
Sheetal returned to the competition less than two hours after helping India win gold in the compound mixed team event alongside Toman Kumar. Her demanding schedule did little to slow her down as she delivered another impressive performance under pressure.
With the individual gold, Sheetal secured her second gold medal and third overall medal at the ongoing Games. She had also won silver in the women’s doubles event alongside Payal Nag, a quadruple amputee archer from Odisha.
Her latest achievement adds to her growing reputation as one of India’s leading para-athletes. Competing without arms, Sheetal uses her lower body and feet to handle her bow and execute her shots, demonstrating exceptional skill, balance and precision.
The victory is another major moment for India’s para-archery contingent and highlights the country’s continued presence in international para-sport.
Sheetal’s successive individual gold medals, combined with her mixed team triumph and doubles silver, make her one of the standout Indian performers at the Nagoya Games.
Her performance is also an inspiring example of determination and sporting excellence, as she continues to compete successfully against some of Asia’s strongest archers.
India will look to build on such performances as the Asian Para Games continue.
