Rashmika Mandanna paid tribute to legendary Carnatic vocalist M. S. Subbulakshmi through her fashion choices at the launch of MS – A Legacy on Screen. The actor, who is set to portray Subbulakshmi in the upcoming biographical film, appeared in Kanchipuram silk saris inspired by the singer’s distinctive style.
One of Rashmika’s looks featured the iconic ‘MS Blue’ shade, a deep, iridescent blue closely associated with Subbulakshmi’s stage appearances. The colour became part of the singer’s enduring visual identity, alongside her traditional Kanchipuram silk saris. Subbulakshmi was awarded the Bharat Ratna in 1998 and is widely regarded as one of the most influential Carnatic vocalists.
For the event, Rashmika wore an Aikyatha Kanjivaram silk sari from the Suswaram Raga Edition. The design draws inspiration from Shankarabharanam, a prominent Carnatic raga, and incorporates elements connected with the imagery of Shiva as Nataraja.
The actor completed the traditional look with jewellery and a classic hairstyle, keeping the focus on the sari and its connection to Subbulakshmi’s legacy.
Rashmika’s portrayal of the celebrated vocalist has already attracted attention following the announcement of the biographical project. The film will mark her attempt to bring the life and legacy of one of India’s most respected classical musicians to a new generation.
