India’s semiconductor ambitions are entering a new phase as global chip-equipment, automation and testing companies expand their investments and partnerships in the country.
After years of efforts to attract semiconductor fabrication, testing and packaging projects, India is now focusing on developing the wider ecosystem needed to support chip manufacturing at scale.
Ahead of SEMICON India 2026, international semiconductor technology suppliers are increasing their presence in the country, reflecting growing interest in India as a manufacturing and technology hub.
US-based Lam Research is among the companies expanding its India operations. The semiconductor equipment maker plans to invest around ₹10,000 crore over the next few years to establish its first silicon component manufacturing facility in India and expand its research and development operations.
The increasing participation of global suppliers is significant because semiconductor manufacturing depends on a broader network of equipment providers, testing companies, automation specialists and technology partners beyond chip fabrication facilities themselves.
India’s semiconductor strategy has increasingly moved from attracting individual manufacturing projects towards building an integrated ecosystem covering fabrication, packaging, testing, equipment and research.
The developments are expected to remain a key focus at SEMICON India 2026, where global and Indian semiconductor companies are set to showcase investments, technologies and partnerships shaping the country’s chip industry.
