Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman called for stronger international cooperation on peace, democracy, development, and regional collaboration while addressing the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).
Reaffirming Bangladesh’s commitment to multilateralism, disarmament, and peaceful conflict resolution, Rahman stressed that disputes must be resolved through dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual cooperation. He reiterated Bangladesh’s unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self‑determination and the establishment of an independent state.
On the Rohingya crisis, Rahman urged global support for the safe and sustainable repatriation of over 1.2 million Rohingyas currently sheltered in Bangladesh. He appealed to the UN and international community to continue humanitarian assistance until their return to Myanmar.
Addressing climate change, Rahman demanded greater climate finance, adaptation support, and climate justice, highlighting Bangladesh’s initiatives in tree plantation, solar energy, water conservation, and canal excavation.
He outlined his government’s three‑R strategy — Recovery, Restoration, and Reconstruction — aimed at rebuilding Bangladesh through employment generation, entrepreneurship, women’s empowerment, education, healthcare, and social protection. Rahman also called for equitable access to artificial intelligence and advanced technologies for developing nations, stressing the need for technology transfer, skills development, and capacity building.
Concluding his speech, Rahman said Bangladesh seeks to build a prosperous, self‑reliant, welfare‑oriented democratic society where all citizens live with equal rights, respect, and dignity.
