India’s shooters delivered a stellar performance on Day 2 of the Asian Games 2026, clinching two silver medals in Nagoya, Japan.

In the women’s 10m air rifle individual event, Elavenil Valarivan shot an impressive 252.4 points to secure silver, finishing just behind Japan’s Hinata Taichi, who claimed gold with a record 253 points. Elavenil, a 2025 World Championship bronze medallist, showcased her consistency and precision on the big stage.

Earlier in the day, India opened its medal tally with silver in the women’s 10m air rifle team event. The trio of Elavenil Valarivan, Sonam Maskar, and Vidarsa Vinod combined for a total score of 1897, finishing second behind China, who took gold with 1904.2 points. Sonam top‑scored for India with 634.1 points, placing fourth in individual qualification, while Elavenil finished seventh with 633.5 points.

President Droupadi Murmu congratulated the shooters, calling their achievement a proud moment for the nation. In a social media post, she said the medals have “opened India’s account at the Games and brought immense pride to the country.”

India’s strong start in shooting sets the tone for a promising campaign, with athletes aiming to add more medals in the coming days.
