India’s net direct tax collections increased 12.96% year-on-year to ₹12.12 lakh crore as of September 17, 2026, compared with ₹10.73 lakh crore during the corresponding period of FY26.

The figures, which include corporate and non-corporate taxes after accounting for refunds, point to continued growth in tax receipts during the financial year.

Gross direct tax collections rose 15.19% to ₹14.32 lakh crore, up from ₹12.43 lakh crore a year earlier. Corporate tax collections increased to ₹6.95 lakh crore from ₹5.96 lakh crore, while non-corporate collections climbed to ₹6.98 lakh crore from ₹6.21 lakh crore.

STT Collections Surge 53%

Securities Transaction Tax (STT) collections rose 52.9% to ₹40,214.36 crore, compared with ₹26,305.72 crore in the year-ago period.

The increase comes after higher STT rates on specified derivatives transactions took effect from April 1, 2026, including increases on futures, options and exercised options.

Advance Tax Rises 16.18%

Advance tax collections grew 16.18% to ₹5.22 lakh crore from ₹4.49 lakh crore a year earlier. Corporate advance tax increased 18.09% to ₹4.16 lakh crore, while non-corporate advance tax rose 9.24% to ₹1.06 lakh crore.

Meanwhile, refunds increased 29.19% to ₹2.20 lakh crore during the period, compared with ₹1.70 lakh crore in FY26.
