Veteran actor Nana Patekar was cremated with full state honours at his family farmhouse in Donje village near Pune on Thursday night, October 8, 2026. The last rites took place at around 11:30 pm, prompting questions about why the funeral was held so late.
Patekar died following a cardiac arrest in Goa earlier that day. After the funeral, his son, Malhar Patekar, explained to reporters that delays in transporting his father’s remains had affected the family’s original plans.
According to Malhar, the family had expected his father’s remains to reach their village earlier. However, the transportation process took longer than anticipated, delaying the arrival at the farmhouse, popularly known as Nanachi Wadi.
With several hours already having passed since the actor’s death, the family decided to complete the last rites on Thursday itself rather than postpone them until the following day.
The cremation was held at the family’s farmhouse in Donje, on the outskirts of Pune, in the presence of mourners and officials. Patekar was accorded full state honours in recognition of his public life and contribution to Indian cinema.
Known for his powerful performances across Hindi and Marathi films, Patekar built a career spanning several decades. His work earned him recognition for portraying a wide range of complex characters.
News of his death prompted tributes from across the film industry and beyond. The late-night funeral marked the family’s final farewell to the veteran actor, with the timing explained by the delay in transportation and the decision to perform the rites on the same day.
