U.S. President Donald Trump battled protesters and a hostile political climate as he sought to rally support for embattled Senate candidate Ken Paxton in Texas, less than a month before Election Day.
Speaking to a packed crowd at the Freeman Coliseum, Trump urged voters to back Paxton, who is facing mounting challenges amid Republican struggles nationwide. With poor approval ratings, the ongoing Iran war, and soaring gas prices, analysts warn that GOP candidates are vulnerable even in traditionally safe states.
The rally was briefly interrupted by demonstrators, underscoring the growing discontent with Trump’s leadership. He also addressed controversy over recent remarks in which he appeared to suggest that the bombing of an American city would be “a small price to pay” for the war in Iran. On Wednesday, Trump clarified, saying Iran might attempt to strike a U.S. city with a missile, framing his comments as a warning rather than an endorsement of sacrifice.
For Republicans, Texas remains a critical battleground. Trump’s appearance alongside Paxton highlights the party’s effort to shore up support in the nation’s most populous red state, where Democrats are hoping to ride a wave of discontent into November.
