At least six people were injured in Russian strikes on Ukraine’s southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia and the northern Chernihiv region, Ukrainian officials said on Monday, October 26, 2026, as attacks on critical infrastructure continued.
Regional Governor Mykhailo Semikin said four people were injured in an overnight Russian strike on Zaporizhzhia. Ukraine’s emergency service separately reported two people injured in strikes on the Chernihiv region.
The Russian Defence Ministry said it had targeted several facilities across Ukraine. According to its statement on Telegram, Russian forces struck a power station in Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second-largest city, a warehouse in the surrounding region and another power station in the Khmelnytskyi region.
Moscow also said it had targeted port infrastructure in Chornomorsk and a cargo vessel travelling towards Odesa, claiming the vessel was being used for military purposes. These statements were attributed to Russia’s Defence Ministry.
The latest attacks come amid continuing tensions over Ukraine’s strikes on Russian oil refineries and Moscow’s attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy said Kyiv would halt strikes on Russian oil refineries only if Russia stopped attacking power infrastructure, or if the United States supplied Patriot air-defence missiles or permitted the use of Starshield over Russia.
Washington has reportedly pressed Ukraine to suspend attacks on Russian oil refineries, arguing that they contribute to higher energy prices. The issue is politically sensitive for the Trump administration amid the war involving Iran and the approach of next month’s US midterm elections.
The latest developments highlight the continuing impact of the war on civilian safety, energy facilities and critical infrastructure across Ukraine. Further damage and casualty updates may emerge as officials assess the affected areas.
