IndiGo and Air India Group will gradually shift selected flights from Mumbai’s existing airport to Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) from December 2026. The move will help create capacity for the redevelopment of Terminal 1 at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
The transition will take place in phases through the 2027 summer aviation season. Selected domestic and international services will move to NMIA, while airlines are expected to retain their historical operating slots at the existing Mumbai airport.
IndiGo will also shift domestic connections to support international transfers at the new airport. Separately, Air India Group plans to progressively move Air India Express services to Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah to NMIA, with the transition expected to finish by the IATA Northern Summer 2027 season.
The changes are part of efforts to develop a dual-airport system for Mumbai, allowing operations to be distributed between the existing airport and the newly built Navi Mumbai facility. Passengers should check their airline’s latest flight details before travelling, as services will transition in stages.
