The company disclosed on October 14 that its patent, titled “5-Hydroxy-1,4-Naphthalenedione for Use in the Treatment of Cancer”, covers a class of compounds that it says can inhibit cancer cells and cancer stem cells. The company also highlighted their potential application in treating different cancer types, including breast and prostate cancer.

Trading activity increased substantially, with 71.55 lakh shares changing hands, compared with an average weekly volume of approximately 54,038 shares. This represented around 132 times the weekly average, indicating a significant jump in market participation.

Despite the rally, the stock remained below its 52-week high of ₹353.50 recorded in April 2025. It had touched a 52-week low of ₹217.20 on October 8, 2026. The shares had gained around 13% over the previous week and 10% over the month, although they remained down 5% over three months and 21% over six months.

The company’s financial performance presents additional considerations. Godavari Biorefineries reported a net loss of ₹19.3 crore for the June 2026 quarter, compared with ₹16 crore a year earlier. EBITDA also declined to ₹2.6 crore from ₹6.5 crore, despite total income increasing to ₹559.9 crore.

While the US patent could create future opportunities, its commercial value, regulatory pathway and potential contribution to revenue remain uncertain. Investors should distinguish the patent announcement from proven commercial success and evaluate the company’s financial performance before making investment decisions.
