Former Miss Universe Jamaica Gabrielle Henry has filed a lawsuit against the Miss Universe Organisation nearly a year after suffering serious injuries in a stage fall during the 2025 Miss Universe competition in Thailand.
Henry represented Jamaica at the 74th Miss Universe competition in Bangkok on November 19, 2025. According to her lawsuit, she fell around five feet through what was described as an unmarked and uncovered opening in the stage during the preliminary evening gown competition.
The complaint alleges that the opening contained lighting equipment and concrete. It also claims that powerful lights directed toward Henry made it difficult for her to properly see the stage.
Henry reportedly lost consciousness following the fall and was hospitalised in Bangkok. According to the details cited in the report, she remained in the hospital until December 10.
The incident reportedly resulted in serious brain injuries and affected Henry’s medical residency. Her lawsuit comes nearly a year after the competition and seeks legal accountability over the circumstances surrounding the fall.
The case places attention on stage safety at large-scale international events, particularly where contestants are expected to move across complex production setups under intense lighting and performance conditions.
Further proceedings will determine the claims and responsibilities raised in the lawsuit. Allegations contained in a legal complaint are claims made by the plaintiff and have not, by themselves, established liability.
