Actor Swara Bhasker has responded to renewed criticism over her comments about the Padmaavat jauhar sequence, describing the latest controversy as “constructed” and disputing the way her remarks were interpreted.
In a recent interview, Bhasker said she was surprised that the issue had resurfaced years after the original controversy. She pointed out that she had already faced intense criticism over the same subject following an open letter she wrote in 2018.
According to Bhasker, her recent comments were made while answering questions about the earlier controversy rather than introducing a new position on the subject.

The controversy relates to Bhasker’s earlier response to the depiction of jauhar in Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s 2018 film Padmaavat. Her comments at the time drew strong reactions on social media.
Bhasker has remained outspoken about contentious subjects throughout her career and has frequently faced online criticism over her public statements. In the interview, she also alleged that some online trolls target her for financial gain.
