One of the key topics is “Ram Rajya”, which the chapter presents as part of the evolution of India’s understanding of governance. The textbook also discusses concepts such as Rajdharma and references from Indian traditions while connecting them with ideas of ethical leadership, public welfare and governance.

The chapter, titled “Governance and Public Policy,” also covers contemporary government policies and programmes. These include the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, National Health Policy 2017, e-governance and Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana. Khelo Bharat Niti is also discussed in the context of public policy.

Another reference is the Sengol, which is presented in connection with historical traditions of governance and authority. The textbook also draws from Indian philosophical and historical sources while explaining governance in the context of modern institutions.

The 2026-27 Class 9 Social Science curriculum is being revised under the National Education Policy 2020 and NCF-SE 2023, with the new material bringing different areas of social science into a broader framework.
