The magical world of Harry Potter is returning with a new generation of young witches and wizards. The teaser trailer for Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone offers the first major look at Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter ahead of the series’ December 2026 premiere.
Running for around 2 minutes and 38 seconds, the teaser revisits several iconic moments from the first story, including the Sorting Hat ceremony and Quidditch at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
The first season will follow Harry’s arrival at Hogwarts, where he forms a close friendship with Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger while gradually discovering the threat surrounding Lord Voldemort.
Alongside McLaughlin, Alastair Stout plays Ron Weasley and Arabella Stanton portrays Hermione Granger. The cast also includes John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape and Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid.
The series is being developed by showrunners Francesca Gardiner and Jon Brown, with Mark Mylod, Jessica Hobbs, Lucy Forbes and Benjamin Caron among the directors. Hans Zimmer is handling the soundtrack.
The eight-episode first season is scheduled to premiere on December 25, 2026, on HBO in the United States and HBO Max globally. A second season has also been renewed and will adapt Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.
