Indian-origin technology executive Chirantan “CJ” Desai is leaving MongoDB to join Meta, where he will lead the company’s newly created enterprise business division. Desai had taken over as MongoDB’s CEO less than a year ago and will now move into a senior role focused on Meta’s growing enterprise AI ambitions.
At Meta, Desai will serve as chief enterprise platform officer and report directly to CEO Mark Zuckerberg. His primary responsibility will be to help turn Meta’s expanding artificial intelligence technology into products and services that businesses can deploy.
Desai brings extensive experience in enterprise software and technology leadership to the role. His career has included senior positions at companies such as ServiceNow and Cloudflare, along with experience at Oracle and Symantec.
He joined MongoDB in November last year and became the database software company’s chief executive. His move to Meta comes as the social media company continues expanding its AI capabilities beyond consumer-focused applications and into enterprise technology.
Reports suggest that Zuckerberg personally approached Desai with the opportunity to join Meta. The appointment places an experienced enterprise technology executive at the centre of Meta’s efforts to build business-focused AI products.
Desai spent his early years in India before moving to the United States in 1993. His new position at Meta is expected to focus on developing practical enterprise applications around the company’s AI technology as businesses increasingly explore AI-powered software and services.
