At 51, pastry chef Neha Diwekar is showing how consistent strength training can support an active lifestyle as people get older. A recent video shared by her son, strength and conditioning coach Om Diwekar, showed her performing Bhangra squats, also known as baithkan.
Om said his mother has been working out for more than 10 years and has regularly included resistance training in her routine. He also highlighted the challenge of maintaining an exercise routine while working as a pastry chef and managing a busy schedule.
According to Om, his mother’s experience demonstrates how regular physical activity can help people maintain strength and continue participating in activities they enjoy as they age. He also pointed to adequate protein intake as another part of maintaining healthy habits.
Strength training involves exercises that make muscles work against resistance. Over time, consistent resistance exercise can help maintain muscle strength and physical function, which become increasingly important with age.
For someone with a demanding work schedule, maintaining an exercise routine may require consistency rather than long or complicated workouts. The key message from Neha’s example is that physical activity can remain part of everyday life even with professional and personal responsibilities.
Her energetic Bhangra squats have also offered a simple visual example of what years of consistent training can support. Rather than focusing only on age, the video highlights the importance of maintaining strength and physical activity over the long term.
