US President Donald Trump has declared that America will “win the war against Iran very soon,” while warning that fresh military strikes remain possible ahead of the midterm elections.
In an interview with Fox News, Trump said victory would drive global oil prices sharply lower, returning them to pre‑war levels. He stressed that Tehran must be denied a nuclear weapon, framing the conflict as both a security and economic battle.
The standoff deepened over the weekend, with Iran rejecting US proposals and insisting the Strait of Hormuz will remain closed until sanctions ease. Trump dismissed Iran’s seven‑day reopening plan as evidence of “desperation,” while US officials denied Iranian claims of capturing an American underwater drone.
Meanwhile, UK authorities arrested five men in connection with a suspected Iran‑linked plot near RAF Fairford, a base used in strikes against Iran. Reports also emerged of four Iranian drone and missile specialists killed in Yemen’s Taiz province during clashes with Houthi forces.
Oil prices rebounded more than 1% on Monday after Trump rejected Iran’s peace offer, underscoring the global economic stakes of the conflict. With rhetoric hardening on both sides, the possibility of renewed negotiations remains uncertain.
