Tinder has launched Group Hangouts, a new feature that lets friends join the dating experience together and connect with other groups. The feature expands on Tinder’s Double Date offering by allowing groups of three or more people to discover, match and chat with other groups based on shared activities and interests.
To use Group Hangouts, one person can create a group and invite at least two friends. Once the group has three members and selects an activity, its profile can appear in Tinder’s Discovery section, where it can be viewed alongside individual and Double Date profiles. Groups do not need to have the same number of members to connect.
When two groups mutually express interest, a shared group chat opens for all participants. Friends can then use the conversation to make plans and potentially meet in person. Activities can range from outings such as mini-golf and karaoke to casual nights out.
Every participant needs an individual Tinder account and can choose whether to join a group. Members can leave a conversation without leaving their friend group, while Tinder’s existing safety, moderation and reporting features continue to apply. Recommendations are also influenced by users’ existing Discovery preferences.
Group Hangouts is currently rolling out in the US and select markets, with additional regions expected to follow. Availability may vary by location.
