A government hospital in Yellandu, Telangana’s Bhadradri Kothagudem district, has provided specialised ENT surgery to a woman who travelled from Andhra Pradesh after facing long waiting periods and high treatment costs.
Meghana, from Busireddypalli village in YSR Kadapa district, had been suffering from severe sinus-related problems and nasal obstruction caused by tissue growth inside her nose. Her family was reportedly asked to wait for months for the procedure in Andhra Pradesh, while private hospitals quoted treatment costs running into lakhs of rupees.
For Meghana’s family, which is headed by a single mother and faces financial constraints, the cost of private treatment was difficult to manage. The family therefore travelled across the State border to Yellandu in search of an affordable alternative.
The specialised procedure was performed at the government hospital in Yellandu, allowing the patient to receive treatment without having to rely on expensive private healthcare.
The case also highlights the role of government hospitals in providing specialised medical services outside major urban centres. Patients from neighbouring districts and even other States may seek treatment at facilities where specific procedures are available and more financially accessible.
For families with limited resources, the availability of specialised care within the public healthcare system can reduce the financial burden associated with private treatment.
