The North-East Education Conclave 2026 began on September 18 in Chümoukedima, Nagaland, bringing together education ministers, policymakers, officials, academics and school representatives from the Northeastern States.

Organised by the Government of Nagaland in collaboration with the Union Ministry of Education, the two-day conclave is focused on the theme “Implementation of NEP 2020: Vision, Challenges & Opportunities for the North Eastern States.”

Discussions are centred on how the National Education Policy can be adapted to the region’s diverse geography, languages, infrastructure and educational requirements. Key areas include school and higher education, technical education, teacher training, funding, institutional capacity, research, innovation and assessment.

Representatives from all eight Northeastern States are participating, with delegates also examining opportunities for inter-state and institutional collaboration. Discussions include sharing resources, best practices, mentoring and capacity-building initiatives.

Technology, skills and employability are also major themes, alongside the role of indigenous knowledge and local languages. Nagaland University Vice-Chancellor Jagadish K. Patnaik highlighted the importance of combining technological progress with regional languages, values and traditions.

The conclave is expected to work towards a collaborative and flexible roadmap for implementing NEP 2020 while addressing the specific educational needs of the Northeast.
