Star Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu added another historic achievement to her career, winning the silver medal in the women’s 49kg category at the Asian Games 2026.

The Tokyo Olympic silver medallist lifted a total of 198kg — 88kg in the snatch and 111kg in the clean and jerk — to secure her place on the podium. This marks India’s first Asian Games weightlifting medal since Karnam Malleswari’s bronze in 1998, completing Chanu’s long‑awaited medal collection.

The gold went to Ri Song Gum of North Korea, who delivered a record‑breaking performance with a combined lift of 215kg (94kg + 121kg), clinching her third consecutive Asian Games title.

Chanu’s silver is a moment of pride for India, showcasing her resilience and consistency on the international stage. Her achievement is expected to inspire a new generation of Indian weightlifters aiming for global success.
