Health officials in Illinois have warned about a possible measles exposure at a restaurant in Madison County after a person with measles was present at the location earlier this month.
The Illinois Department of Health said the potential exposure occurred at Salt + Smoke, located at 410 N. Main St. in Edwardsville, on Sept. 10 between 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. People who visited the restaurant during that period may have been exposed.
Officials did not disclose whether the person with measles was a Madison County resident. The local county health department had not immediately provided additional information at the time of the report.
People who may have been exposed are being advised to monitor themselves for possible measles symptoms for 21 days following the exposure date. Anyone who develops symptoms should contact their local public health agency for guidance.
The warning comes as health authorities in neighboring Missouri have also reported measles cases. Missouri health officials recently announced a third confirmed case linked to a Chicago-bound train trip on Aug. 27, which had also been associated with an earlier case.
Measles is highly contagious, and health officials commonly use exposure notifications to identify people who may need to monitor for symptoms or seek medical guidance.
People who were at the Edwardsville restaurant during the specified time should follow guidance from public health authorities and contact their healthcare provider or local health department if they develop symptoms or have concerns about their exposure.
