Senior IAS officer Mandeep K Bhandari has been appointed the new chairperson of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment, according to an order issued by the Ministry of Personnel.
Bhandari is a 2001-batch IAS officer of the AGMUT cadre and is currently serving as Principal Secretary to the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir. He will replace Lokhande Prashant Sitaram, who had been holding additional charge of the CBSE chairperson's post.
Sitaram was given the additional responsibility after the Centre transferred former CBSE chairperson Rahul Singh on June 2, amid the controversy surrounding the On-Screen Marking system.
In another appointment, Ankita Mishra Bundela, also a 2001-batch AGMUT cadre IAS officer, has been appointed Additional Secretary in the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education. She was previously serving as Additional Secretary in the Department of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare.
The appointment of Bhandari comes as CBSE continues to oversee board examinations, curriculum-related matters and other academic processes for affiliated schools across India.
