Google is reportedly testing a new shopping feature in India that could allow users to purchase products from Flipkart directly through Gemini and AI Mode in Google Search.
Under the early test, selected Flipkart product listings displayed within Gemini and AI Mode reportedly include a “Buy” button. When users select the option, they are taken to a Flipkart-branded checkout experience that appears within the AI interface, potentially reducing the need to switch between apps or websites while shopping.
The feature is currently being tested with a limited group of users and is available only for a small selection of products, according to the report. The initial catalogue reportedly includes smartphones, electronics and mobile accessories.
The move comes as Google continues to expand the role of AI in online shopping. Instead of simply providing search results or product information, AI-powered interfaces are increasingly being developed to help users move from discovering a product to completing a purchase.
For Flipkart, integration with Google’s AI-powered shopping experience could provide another route for customers to discover and purchase products through search and conversational interfaces.
Google is reportedly targeting a wider rollout of the feature in October, ahead of India’s festive shopping season. However, the feature remains in testing, and details about its final availability, product coverage and rollout plans could change.
If expanded, the integration could make Gemini and AI Mode more directly connected to online shopping in India, allowing users to research products and access purchasing options from the same AI-driven interface.
