The Chakma Autonomous District Council (CADC) in Mizoram’s Lawngtlai district will implement the National Education Policy (NEP) from the 2027-28 academic session.
The council has also decided to introduce a weekly ‘Mizo Speaking Day’ across all primary and middle schools under its jurisdiction.
According to officials, the initiative will be observed every Wednesday and is intended to give students regular opportunities to learn and practise the Mizo language.
The decisions were taken during a meeting on educational administration held at the council headquarters in Kamalanagar on September 27. The meeting was chaired by Executive Member in charge of Education Doymoy Daveng Chakma.
The NEP implementation will mark a significant change in the educational framework followed by schools administered by the autonomous council. The policy focuses on areas including foundational learning, multilingual education, skills development and broader reforms in school education.
The introduction of a dedicated language day is expected to provide students with additional opportunities for regular spoken-language practice alongside their existing academic activities.
The CADC’s decisions come as educational institutions across India continue to work towards implementing various aspects of the National Education Policy 2020.
