Former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar has joined the Congress, declaring that she could no longer “defend the indefensible” within her former party.

Kakkar, once a prominent voice for AAP, said the party’s changing character and lack of accountability pushed her to make the switch. She praised Rahul Gandhi’s leadership, calling it “authentic” and aligned with the values of transparency and inclusivity.

Joining her were former Uttar Pradesh MLA Shyam Sunder Sharma and former journalist Rajat Rakesh Tandon, both of whom also formally entered the Congress fold on Saturday. The move is being seen as part of Congress’s broader strategy to attract disillusioned leaders from rival parties ahead of upcoming electoral battles.

Kakkar’s defection underscores growing cracks within AAP, which has faced criticism over governance and internal dissent. For Congress, her entry adds weight to its narrative of being the primary opposition force capable of challenging the ruling BJP, while also strengthening its outreach to urban voters and professionals.

The development highlights the shifting political landscape in Delhi and beyond, as leaders recalibrate their positions in response to changing party dynamics and national politics.
