The National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) has released Understanding Society: India and Beyond, Social Science Textbook for Grade 9, Part 2, adding to the new set of textbooks being introduced for Grade 9.
The textbook will be available for purchase from September 29, 2026, through NCERT Publication Division outlets, authorised vendors, the official NCERT website and Amazon. Students and teachers can also access new Grade 9 textbooks through NCERT's online textbook platform.
The new books are being introduced as part of the curriculum transition under the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE) 2023 and the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.
NCERT's revised Grade 9 curriculum covers subjects including Science, Mathematics and Social Science as part of the Secondary Stage, Phase I, Part 2.
The updated textbooks are designed around a competency-based approach, with greater emphasis on experiential learning and connections between different subjects. The framework also highlights cultural rootedness, Indian Knowledge Systems, inclusion and the use of technology in education.
The release of the Social Science textbook is part of the broader process of introducing revised learning materials aligned with the new curriculum framework.
With the latest book now available, students, parents and teachers can obtain the textbook through NCERT's authorised distribution channels and online resources.
The revised Grade 9 textbooks are expected to support the transition towards the learning approaches outlined in the NCF-SE 2023 and NEP 2020.
