Meta’s new personal AI agent, Muse, is gaining rapid attention as consumers increasingly use AI tools to complete tasks rather than simply ask questions. The service has overtaken ChatGPT on the free app charts on Apple’s App Store and Google Play in the US and Canada, according to the report.
Unlike traditional chatbots, Muse is designed to act on a user’s behalf. It can handle tasks such as shopping, travel bookings and filling out online forms, while also working across connected apps and services.
Meta launched Muse in September as part of its broader push into personal AI agents. The company says the system can browse the web, complete multi-step tasks and continue working in the background, with users able to approve sensitive actions such as purchases and emails.
The rapid adoption of Muse has also drawn attention from investors because AI agents could change how consumers interact with businesses and online services. Instead of visiting individual websites or apps to compare products and complete purchases, users could increasingly delegate those activities to an AI agent.
That shift could affect companies that rely heavily on direct customer traffic, advertising and established purchasing habits. The impact is already becoming visible in the technology and retail sectors, with Amazon blocking Muse from shopping on its platform while Shopify is moving toward supporting agent-based checkout.
Muse’s rise highlights a broader transition in consumer AI, from systems that primarily generate answers to agents capable of carrying out real-world digital tasks.
