The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) confirmed that Captain Smit Machchhar, the Flydubai pilot hailed as a hero for saving hundreds of lives, has been shifted to Abu Dhabi for continued medical care and recovery.
Captain Machchhar was injured during a violent cockpit altercation on September 30, when a fellow pilot allegedly attempted to sabotage a Flydubai flight en route from Dubai to Tel Aviv. The aircraft was forced to divert to Tabuk, Saudi Arabia, where Machchhar received initial treatment before being transferred to Abu Dhabi for advanced medical attention.
The MEA stated that India’s Ambassador in the UAE visited Captain Machchhar at the hospital to enquire about his well‑being and assured him of full support. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also spoke to the injured pilot virtually on October 2, praising his extraordinary bravery and presence of mind that prevented a potential disaster.
Captain Machchhar’s actions have drawn international admiration, with leaders and aviation experts commending his courage under life‑threatening circumstances. His recovery remains a matter of national concern, as he continues to receive medical care in Abu Dhabi.
The incident has sparked global discussions on aviation safety and cockpit security, while India stands united in support of its heroic pilot.
