The Delhi Government has approved the DURGA scheme, a landmark initiative aimed at empowering women and transgender persons through safe, clean, and dignified employment opportunities.
Chaired by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, the Cabinet cleared the first phase of the project, under which 1,300 pink electric autos will be allotted. Of these, 1,170 autos are reserved for women and 130 for transgender beneficiaries, ensuring inclusivity and equal access.
The scheme allows women and transgender persons to become owners and drivers of eco‑friendly autos. To ensure fair distribution, each revenue district will receive a maximum of 90 autos for women and 10 autos for transgender beneficiaries.
Chief Minister Gupta emphasised that the DURGA scheme is a step towards making Delhi a safer, greener, and more inclusive city. By promoting electric mobility, the initiative not only reduces pollution but also creates sustainable livelihoods.
The government hopes this move will inspire more women and transgender persons to join the transport workforce, breaking stereotypes and strengthening Delhi’s commitment to equality.
