Chief Justice of India Justice Surya Kant inaugurated the country’s first‑ever Victims Rights Centre in Patna, emphasising that the justice system must proactively reach out to those in need rather than wait for victims to seek help.
Speaking at the launch, Justice Kant highlighted that many victims remain unaware of their legal rights or where to seek assistance. The new centre, set up at the Bihar State Legal Services Authority campus, will serve as a victim‑centric case management system, ensuring support at every stage of a case.
The centre will provide legal aid, psychological counselling, and emotional support under one roof, with fixed timelines for various steps and regular progress reviews. Justice Kant said the initiative aims to guarantee that victims receive not only justice but also holistic care throughout the legal process.
In addition to the centre, a Transgender Helpline was launched to extend specialised support, while multi‑utility vehicles were flagged off to deliver legal aid services to remote communities. Officials believe the centre will set a precedent for victim‑focused justice delivery across India.
