Kerala Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan has emphasised the need to preserve the independence, transparency, and institutional safeguards of the Election Commission of India (ECI) amidst growing allegations against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), Satheesan said that voters must have full confidence in the integrity of India’s electoral process. He warned that any erosion of trust in the Commission would directly undermine the foundations of democracy.

Satheesan’s remarks come at a time when opposition leaders and civil society groups have raised concerns about alleged irregularities in voter roll management and the autonomy of the Election Commission. His statement adds weight to the ongoing debate about safeguarding democratic institutions from political influence.

The Kerala CM reiterated that the credibility of elections depends on the impartiality of the Commission. “Preserving transparency and independence is not optional — it is essential for democracy to thrive,” he noted.

His comments highlight the growing demand for accountability and reforms to ensure that India’s electoral system remains free, fair, and trusted by its citizens.
